Nintendo decided they had so much to give this week they needed two Directs to do it, the first was dedicated to The Legend of Zelda, but no one could have predicted that the second would be this massive.
From the return of Samus Aran to the epic conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, the library for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch is getting a serious bump. Here is everything you need to know about the biggest announcements from today’s presentation.
The Return of Nintendo Heavyweights
Fans have been waiting patiently for the next great 2D adventure, and Nintendo delivered with our first look at Metroid Ravenous. Launching on 28th January 2027, this intense new 2D action game drops Samus Aran into a brutal “eat or be eaten” scenario. The game is heading exclusively to the Switch 2, and collectors will want to keep an eye out for the Special Edition bundle that includes a sleek SteelBook case and a brand-new Metroid Suit amiibo.
Not to be outdone, everyone’s favourite pink hero is gearing up for a massive milestone. To celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary, Kirby and the World Beyond is taking the series back into expansive, fully 3D landscapes. Launching in autumn 2027, the new adventure promises completely free exploration and highly creative new ways to use Kirby’s signature Copy Abilities.
For players looking to upgrade their existing favourites, Nintendo announced enhanced Switch 2 versions for two major titles. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives in February 2027 with a much-needed frame rate boost, ultra-tough new modes, and all previous expansion content. Meanwhile, Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy launches this November, introducing voice commands so you can finally talk directly to your loyal pup, Oatchi, using the console’s built-in microphone.
Epic RPGs and Monster Hunting
If you love losing hundreds of hours to role-playing games, this Direct was essentially built for you. The absolute biggest news for RPG fans is the confirmation of Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The third and final chapter of the epic remake project arrives on 8th April 2027. We finally get to take to the skies in the Highwind airship as Cloud and the team race to stop Sephiroth once and for all. For those who want the full backstory, a completely overhauled remaster of Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion is available on the eShop later today.
Capcom also showed up with Monster Hunter Wilds, bringing the massive tracking and hunting experience to the Switch 2 on 4th December. Best of all, it features full cross-platform multiplayer, meaning you can team up with friends regardless of where they play.
The acclaimed Persona series is also getting plenty of love. Persona 6 was officially announced, promising a brand-new standalone story with a fresh cast of characters. If you prefer to look back, Persona 4 Revival will rebuild the beloved murder mystery of the Midnight Channel for a modern audience, launching in May 2027.
Reimagined Classics and Survival Horror
Nostalgia was a major theme today, spearheaded by the reveal of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint; it is a ground-up reimagining of Lara Croft’s iconic 1996 debut. Releasing in February 2027, players will once again explore the deadly ruins of Peru, Greece, and Egypt using Lara’s acrobatic skills and signature dual pistols.
Horror fans have a lot to celebrate, too. Capcom is bringing three heavy hitters to the Switch 2 on 16th October: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. All three have been rebuilt on the RE ENGINE and pack a wealth of additional content. If you want something entirely new to keep you awake at night, Bloober Team revealed Onyx: The Dark Grip, a terrifying 2.5D supernatural horror game where you play as a mysterious entity manipulating a traveller in a ghost town.
Action platformer fans weren’t forgotten, either. Mega Man: Dual Override arrives next autumn, letting players swap between Mega Man and Proto Man, while fighting game enthusiasts can look forward to FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves launching this October, complete with guest fighters from the Tokyo Revengers anime.
Multiplayer, Sports, and Casual Fun
Sometimes you just want to relax with friends, and Nintendo is bringing back a beloved destination. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches in October, inviting players back to Wuhu Island. You can compete in 12 sports, freely explore the island to find hidden secrets, and earn Spocco Points to customise your characters.
If you prefer your multiplayer with a bit more chaos, Mario Kart World is receiving a massive free update later today. Ten classic courses from the original Super Mario Kart are being added as standalone VS Race tracks, complete with retro item panels. For a completely different competitive vibe, MECCHA CHAMELEON offers a hilarious new take on hide-and-seek. Supporting up to 12 players online, you’ll have to quickly paint yourself to blend into nearby furniture and walls to avoid being caught by the “It” team.
Finally, for those who prefer cozy exploration, the newest Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea expansion arrives in November, letting you become a magical Merfolk alongside characters from Atlantis and Hercules. And if you love building, House Flipper 2 brings its relaxing renovation simulation to the console in October, complete with a new 4-player co-op mode.
Whether you are looking to save the universe, survive a zombie outbreak, or just play a few rounds of golf on Wuhu Island, the Nintendo Switch 2 library is shaping up to be absolutely incredible.
