If you thought the helmet-wearing icons of electronic music had hung up their gear for good, think again. The LEGO Group and Daft Punk have just announced a massive new partnership, officially bringing the legendary robots into the world of bricks. It is the ultimate team-up we did not know we needed, but now we absolutely cannot live without.

Rumours have been swirling since a mysterious teaser dropped on ‘Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7’ on October 21. It featured a simple 30-second clip of a 2×4 red LEGO brick that looked suspiciously like a speaker woofer. Fans were left to decode the clues, and today, the collaboration, playfully titled ‘Builders After All’, is finally confirmed.

To kick off the celebration, the two brands released a new short film that takes fans on a cultural crossover journey. The video features Daft Punk minifigures following a holographic red brick through a dark, mysterious landscape. As the robots step inside the “gates-of-play,” the architecture unfolds and wraps around them beat by beat, brick by brick. Finally, the video reveals the duo manning a highly detailed LEGO brick-built console.

The soundtrack for this visual treat was carefully selected from the Daft Punk archives. It features a perfect mix of “Voyager,” the bassline-heavy track from their 2001 Discovery album, and the title track from 2005’s Human After All. It is a brilliant nod to their history while firmly cementing their new status as LEGO Builders After All.

The 2007 ALIVE Pyramid Stage Becomes a Reality

Perhaps the most exciting news for long-time followers is the greenlighting of a brand new LEGO Ideas set. Based on the duo’s iconic 2007 ALIVE tour, the famous pyramid stage is officially going into development to become a real product that fans around the world can build at home.

The origin of this set is a genuinely heartwarming story. It started as a lockdown passion project between a Luxembourgish father and his son, driven simply by their shared love for Daft Punk and LEGO building. Patrick Harboun, the creator of the submission, won the Grand Prize in the 2020 LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears challenge. After gathering 10,000 supporters on the platform, the idea is now advancing to become an official retail set.

Cédric Hervet, Creative Director for Daft Punk, noted that the pyramid stage is one of the most recognisable parts of their visual world. He shared his excitement about seeing fan creativity reflected so perfectly in the LEGO universe.

What Is Next for the Partnership?

This product launch is just the beginning of a much bigger journey. The LEGO Group promises a mashup of surprising events and content crossing music, culture, and creative spaces. Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at the LEGO Group, explained that both brands share an enduring appeal. She noted that this collaboration is made for fans ready to lose themselves to play.

For more than three decades, Daft Punk have redefined visual culture and music, influencing generations of fans and designers. Now, combined with the limitless possibilities of LEGO, there is an entirely new way to experience their legacy.
