Guess we’re on the right side of the river!
Yep, you read that headline right. It’s not a gimmick, or click bait, or a comic, or an audio book, it’s a proper The Mummy 4 movie by Universal Pictures. It was announced earlier today by Universal Pictures that the family friendly action-adventure classic from the 90s is returning for a new film and both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to return.
The last time we saw The Mummy on our screens was back in 2017 with Tom Cruise in the (now failed) dark universe launch, which was set to be an MCU style shared universe of films of classic horror villains. Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell was last seen in 2008 when he went toe to toe with Jet Li in: The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a film which Rachel Weisz did not return for.
After Brendan Fraser returned to screens a few years ago fans have been crying out for the actor to return to The Mummy franchise, but after the failed dark universe launch things seemed unlikely. But today those cries were put to rest. Universal Pictures hasn’t released any further details for the time being but a script is currently being written by David Coggeshall (The Deliverance, The Family Plan).
