Port Lincoln State Emergency Service are in recruitment mode.

Volunteer Max Colson says they understand people are busy, but volunteering doesn’t need to take up too much time.

“Every SES unit in the region is constantly recruiting because we’re always after volunteers, and we know that lives are very very busy and we accept that… but there might be time at night or on the weekend where you could actually assist,” Mr Colson said.

The SES have plenty of opportunities available within the organisation – from operational roles that see volunteers help with road crash rescue, marine rescue, and flood operations – to support roles involving radio communications and community engagement.

The SES also hope to diversify their volunteers.

“We want to increase our female membership, Colson said.

“We really want to get to the 50/50 split – I think we’re about 40/60 at the moment.”
