As part of a State Government program, some local community pharmacists will receive mental health first aid training.
$350,000 will be spent delivering the training to at least 1,000 community pharmacists and pharmacy staff, across metropolitan and regional SA.
The training will help improve early identification of mental health issues and provide initial support by pharmacists to people experiencing mental illness.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Chris Picton, says upskilling pharmacists to deliver high quality and safe care means staff can identify early warning signs of mental ill health that may otherwise go unnoticed and undiagnosed.
