Fresh Calls to Urgently Secure Alternative Water Supply

There are fresh calls to urgently secure an alternative water supply in the region, after troubling trends in the Eyre Peninsula’s underground water sources.

Over the last year, the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board has recorded water levels ‘below’ or ‘very much below average’ in almost half of the Uley South Basin wells, which supplies the majority of water used across the region.

Similar figures have been seen in other groundwater resources, including the Lincoln Basin and the Bramfield Lens, near Elliston, despite years of the La Nina wet weather patterns.

The board’s General Manager, Jonathan Clark, says decisive action is required now before we lose this critical resource forever.
