Testing is underway after two dead seabirds were found washed up at Fowlers Bay on the Eyre Peninsula.
The discovery comes just days after bird flu cases were confirmed across the border in Western Australia.
Authorities say there are no confirmed cases in South Australia at this stage, but samples from the birds are now being analysed as a precaution.

Officials aren’t taking any chances, with the findings closely watched given the recent detection of the H5 strain in WA.
Results from the testing are expected in the coming days.
