Get ready to comb the desert!
After 37-years, and a crap load of new Star Wars movies, Mel Brooks is bringing Spaceballs back to our screens. The mega cult-hit has been rumoured for decades to be getting a sequel in which the team were on a quest for more money. But this morning Mel Brooks himself spoke directly to camera to let his fans know that they can finally expect a new film to hit theatres in 2027. Watch the announcement below!
Holy hell we have a ‘sequel/prequel, reboot, remake’ problem in Hollywood. But who cares, it’s Spaceballs time to bring back Yoghurt, Barf, and Lonestar. The original film is praised as a cult classic and is beloved by many fans of all ages, I remember watching the original as a kid with my brother and father at a young age and quoting it all day around the house. It’s a testament to the original that 37-years later the film still has relevance and longevity to have survived in the eye of pop-culture with just the single film.
So far, all Brooks has shared is that another film will be happening, we don’t yet know if any cast members from the previous film will be returning. As it has been 37-years since the original film a lot of the original cast has either sadly passed away or retired from acting, so does that mean we will be seeing a new Barf and Lonestar for the next film? It seems for now that we will be getting no details for a little while longer whilst the film goes through its final steps of pre-production so don’t hold your breath.
I guess only time will tell.
All I can say is that when the film does drop in 2027, I’ll be first in line with my stunt double to see it, alongside my brother and father (feel free to also invite your stunt doubles Josh & Paul).
You can catch Spaceballs 2 when it comes to cinemas in 2027. May the Schwartz be with you.
