Streaming to get more expensive

Netflix and Chill is about to get more expensive, even if you get the chill part for free.

Netflix are raising their prices on premium subscription plans from $17.99 to $19.99 in the coming weeks.

The premium plan offers 4k streaming, and the ability to stream to four devices at the same time.

Thankfully, if you're a cheapskate like me and have the basic ($9.99) or standard ($13.99) packages - they will remain the same price. Phew!

Less than a third of Aussie subscribers have the premium plan... and if you do, well hello Mr or Mrs Money Bags.. I'm sure you can afford the 2 bucks extra a month.

Just kidding.

Netflix said in a statement “We change our prices from time to time and continue to invest heavily to grow in the depth and breadth of our content such as new shows like The Politician, Unbelievable, well-loved series like Stranger Things, The Good Place and The Crown, as well as improvements to our product.

“Our basic and standard memberships will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content.”

Netflix has invested over $15 billion - yep, that's BILLION dollars in content THIS YEAR ALONE, so it's no wonder they're looking for a bit more cash.

Netflix stock lost most of it's year gains recently, after an unexpected subscriber loss in the US. Looks like competition is starting to hurt the famous service.

With 151 million paying subscribers globally, and an estimated 11.5 million in Australia, things are still strong for the service, however perhaps they might not be able to splash so much cash on content in the future - or we'll be paying more for it for sure!
