Prime Minister Scott Morrison has visited the Governor General on what is a very brisk Thursday morning in Canberra.

The PM left The Lodge and was driven to Government House where he greeted the Governor General's assistants before walking inside to sit down with Sir Peter Cosgrove.

While the actual date of the Federal Election is yet to be confirmed, it is widely tipped that we will head to the polls on May 18.

Media waiting out the front of Government House reported that the meeting between the pair did not last long and soon the Prime Minister was seen walking back to his waiting car and was whisked away to Parliament House.

PM Morrison is expected to address the media outside Parliament House at around 8:00AM.
