Big Win for Eyre Peninsula Events and Festivals

It’s been announced that five Eyre Peninsula events and festivals are set to receive funding supported by the South Australian Tourism Commission Regional Events & Festivals Program.

The program has listed up to 32 events statewide that will see support including Eyre Peninsula events such as Tunarama, Rodeo by the Sea, Colour Tumby Street Art Festival, SALT Festival and the Oysterfest.

Tourism Development Manager from Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula Sondra Stuart says the 5 events have been spread across the Eyre Peninsula and the funding will be spent to help market these events.

“The funding is scaled on the type of events, so obviously some of the larger events like Tunarama and Oysterfestival will probably gain more money than the smaller events,  so it’s so important that we have events that give a sense of community but it’s really important for these events to draw visitors to our region.” Said Sondra.

South Australian Tourism Commission chief executive Rodney Harrex said the funding would assist regional South Australian communities looking forward to some sense of normality, and to help plan ahead.

“Clearly COVID-19, and even the bushfires early in the year, has impacted regional South Australia, with community events and festivals being cancelled or postponed, so it is positive news that we can today look ahead and plan for the next 12 months,” he said.

In total there has been $369,000 of funding made available for regional events and festivals across the state.
