The Streak Bay Kerrin McEvoy Statue Committee are excited to move forward with the project following Premier Steven Marshall's announcement that the State Government would fund more than $37,500 towards the project.
The funding contribution will enable the completion of the project without further fundraising activities which the committee have been working at to reach their goal of $125,000.
Members of the Streaky Bay community, established a subcommittee of the Streaky Bay Racing Club in 2017, for the purpose of raising funds and creating a life-size bronze statue of Kerrin McEvoy to be placed on the Streaky Bay Foreshore.
The statue will be created by well renowned and talented bronze artist Ken Martin, the man behind Port Lincoln Makybe Diva statue and Tuna Poler.
The Kerrin McEvoy Sculpture Project committee hope to have the project completed by March 2021.
