There are calls to treat the long term recovery from COVID-19 like a natural disaster, with locally lead plans for regional communities like the Eyre Peninsula backed by state and national resources.
It comes as the Australia Together Alliance hosted an online summit yesterday, to create a national roadmap for long term prosperity and wellbeing.
Matthew Cox from the alliance says they’d like to see a new localism which can address the unique social and economic challenges of Regional towns and communities.
The economies that operate in capital cities tend to be fairly similar, but as soon as you leave the capital cities regions in Australia become very very different, and we really need a way of responding to those very different challenges that are appearing in the post COVID environment, but also the long term opportunities that each of those regions face.
