Obstacles Not Enough to Stop PL Tuna Classic Success

Riviera Tuna Classic

The Riviera Port Lincoln Tuna classic saw a successful event over the weekend despite the COVID-19 venue regulations forcing a slight change of plans for the presentations, which resulted in the event taking place at Fisherman’s Point as an outdoor event.

The two-day fishing tournament’s major awards were presented to Gilbert Le Brun who took out the heaviest fish reeling in a 15.8kg Tuna on the ‘Laila Jane’.

Ian Montgomarie also on the ‘Laila Jane’ with 19 fish won the Overall Champion Angler

David Buckland on the ‘Long Shot’ with 45 fish took out the Overall Boat Award.

Craig Kelsh on ‘Laila Jane’ took home the Calcutta prize money of more than $37,000.

And Emma Forster took out the woman’s category winning Champion Female with 5 fish.

Event Manager Russell Bianco says having the presentations on the beach turned out really well in the end and attendees loved it.

“Tuna Classic was yeah a huge success after postponing it due to bad weather the first week and then a couple days earlier finding out the changes in the government legislations with the coronavirus so it was a bit of a challenge getting it of the ground but we managed to comply and it was a huge success.

“145 fish were caught over the two days” said Russell.
