Police yesterday conducted a vehicle compliance operation on Eyre Peninsula at Lincoln Gap, tanks as part of an ongoing road safety operation.
Operation Eyre Safe, began in May in the wake of the rail closure in the lower Eyre Peninsula.
Yesterday’s operation saw more than 1200 drivers stopped, 1077 tested for alcohol, 98 drug swabs and 152 heavy vehicle inspections.
There were no positive results for alcohol, five positive drug tests and one B-Double was found with no working brakes on either trailer
Superintendent Bahr said that large-scale compliance operations will be conducted regularly in the area during the harvest season, with the police keen to promote responsible driving behaviour to all road users.
