Peter Teakle wines 2017 Riesling have been awarded an outstanding score of 94 points by Australian Wine Expert James Halliday and his tasting panel.
The wine was amongst the Halliday 2019 Wine Companion list that was described as well made, lively, crisp and intense by Halliday.
The wine was created by a combination of Peter Teakle and his vineyard team and made by South Australian winemakers and industry leaders Liz Heidenriech, Nick Walker and David O’Leary.
The 2017 Riesling was a complete sell-out through the Line and Label restaurant and the 2019 Riesling is due to be released in a few months’ time for wine lovers across the region.
Liz Heidenriech said, “The 2019 Estate Riesling has very similar characteristics to the 2017. It’s packed full of flavour of lemon peel and lime juice. This wine is very approachable as a young wine, but time will add to the complexity.”
“This was our first wine, so with new vineyard management, the grapes are only going to get better. Watch this space - we are creating something special.” Mr. Teakle said.
A purpose built winery is currently under construction on the Peter Teakle Wines vineyard site that will allow fruit from the vineyard and other wineries to be crushed locally.
The multi-million dollar project will be completed later this year with a cellar door that from the inside views the crushing facility at work, then the vineyard outside.
This project aims to create a new industry for the Lower Eyre Peninsula and a new wine region for the state.
