Yesterday the Thumbs up for Jack $10k in 10 hours Radiothon was a complete success with Magic 89.9 and 5cc smashing their $10,000 goal before 9 am and that number continued to rise over the day.
The 10 hour radiothon saw a tremendous amount of donations received on a minutely basis.
By 4 pm Thumbs up for Jack raised over $46,000 VIA the GoFundMe page with cash donations being brought into the station by members of the community throughout the day.
Students after school had even come into the station to donate their pocket money.
Eyre Peninsula Broadcasters Magic 89.9 and 5cc General Manager Darren Allard said “The Thumbs Up for Jack Radiothon success, has once again proved what a generous and compassionate community the Eyre Peninsula is.”
“To my team here at the Radio Station, thank you for putting your heart and souls into this, you were all invested from the moment I asked you all if and how we could help. You rock!”
“I would also like thank all the people, the businesses the Kemp family’s friends and relatives who have donated and assisted on the day – truly amazing!”
“To Kain, Grace, Saxon and of course Jack, whilst the future is unknown at this point, I trust that with friends like Katherine Arthur and the Eyre Peninsula community being behind you, in some small way this helps you through whatever that future holds.”
“Rest assured we all have for you and Jack - Our Thumbs up!” said Darren.
Following the radiothon it has also been announced that yesterday afternoon the Kemp family received a further $23,000 dropped into the bank from Markane Seafood crew who pulled together a total of $8000, Makybe Diva Racing and Breeding who donated $5,000 and Tony’s Tuna and staff donated $10,000.
Tony Octoman from Tony’s Tuna says Kain Kemp’s work colleges from the company wanted to help the Kemp family in any way possible.
“The staff asked me what can we do, can we donate leave, can we help out in some way so Kain can spend time with the family and so I emailed the board and this is what they came back with."
“It was very moving when the GM Andrew Wilkinson gave me a call yesterday and said all of this has been approved.”
“And yeah he will get leave whenever he needs it to spend time with the family and his job will always be there."
The GoFundMe page is currently sitting at over $51,000
