The Marshal Government has turned its attention to heritage in South Australian with Poondie receiving funding that will see the preservation of heritage listed buildings in the township.
The Poonindie Aboriginal Mission has received $1000 to go into the stone stabilisation in the former schoolhouse and $3000 into reroofing the Super Intendents Residence.
The funding has come under the Australian Heritage grants funding
Poonidie was established as a mission back in 1850 with an aboriginal population living there and closed in 1890’s.
Member for Flinders Peter Treloar says it’s really important that we preserve this heritage and well done to Poonindie for receiving the funding.
“There’s another round of grants open now so I’d encourage anybody to apply for the Australian Heritage Grants, it needs to be matched dollar for dollar so people need to be prepared to put up some money their selves AND THE Government can kick in the rest themselves.” Said Mr. Treloar.
