Youth week has officially kicked off with West Coast Youth and Community Support sparking excitement for the youth in recognition of the significant week.
Last night the Port Lincoln Youth Advisory Committee hosted an event at the youth hub giving youths the opportunity to check out the space and create discussion on what young people in our community would like to see and do.
The youth have been coming up with events and organising them themselves, creating responsibility and motivation between them.
Jo Clark from West Coast Youth and community support says the YAC group have also launched a new logo for the committee as of yesterday.
"Its about getting them recognised as young people that are in positions to influence decision making in the community so the final design actually incorporated the artwork from the skate park into the lettering of YAC, which I am so happy about because it truly looks like Port Lincoln, its one of the first things you see when you come into town if you are a young person, so have to have that reflected in our design is really cool." said Jo.
Jo says youth week is important to them because it’s the opportunity for young people to have their voice heard, have a say and participate in what’s going on in their community by becoming a part of it and having their suggestions and potentially decisions being recognised and heard.
