As of next week a range of exciting marine based events will be hosted across the Eyre Peninsula as a part of the Department for Environment and Water’s state-wide Immerse Yourself in a Marine park program.
Immerse yourself is a program running through the month of January that will provide family fun events for the summer holidays, Natural resources Eyre Peninsula will hosting the EP’s edition of the program.
Locals and visitors are invited to join Natural Recourses on four specific events that will be held over the coming two weeks.
Next week from Monday 14th- Sunday 20th community guided snorkelling will take place in several locations over the duration of the week including; Tumby Bay Jetty, Dutton Bay Jetty, Shelly Beach Port Lincoln and Smooth Pools near Streaky Bay.
Natural Resources EP will also be hosting three other special marine themed events at Whyalla, Streaky Bay and Port Lincoln.
The Port Lincoln edition ‘Yamara Wardana’ (Embrace The Sea) will be held at the Port Lincoln Library on the 25th January.
Whyalla will host ‘Beach detectives at the Whyalla City Council Australia Day Celebrations on the 26th January
And Streaky bay will host an ongoing event throughout the month of January on week days called ‘Secrets of the Sea’ at the Streaky Bay Visitor Information Centre.
Marine Parks Regional Coordinator Dr Shelley Paull said the aim of the Immerse Yourself program is to get people to experience and learn more about South Australia’s unique coastal and marine environments.
“Eyre Peninsula is home to ten of the state’s 19 marine parks, with arguably some of the most spectacular coastline and unique marine environments in Australia,” said Dr Paull.
“We also have a rich Aboriginal history with deep connections to Country, including Sea Country, and I am really looking forward to showcasing this.”
