In an effort to support the industry, licence fees for Eyre Peninsula rock lobster fishers have been cut by 50 per cent for the next financial year.
A commitment by the Labor Party at the State Election, the Government say it's a practical and fast way to support the fishery who were impacted by both COVID and market disruption with China.
In a statement, Executive Officer of the South Australian Northern Zone Rock Lobster Fishing Association, Kyri Toumazos, said the fee reduction has created a positive response amongst the sector, and has provided a collaborative operating environment between the industry and the Government.
As much as 90% of Australian rock lobster was exported to China prior to the trade ban, a market said to be worth more than $700 million.
