Grain Producers Anticipating Above Average Season

A member survey by Grain Producers SA has shown 90 per cent of the state's grain producers are anticipating an average or above average season.

With sowing underway in many regions, the organisations CEO Brad Perry said the survey showed just under 50 per cent have begun dry sowing and almost 29 per cent are waiting for rain.

He said areas on the Eyre Peninsula that received soaking rain events at the start of this year are sowing into moist soil for the first time in several seasons, and are reporting 2022 seeding as one of the best starts they've seen in a while.

Mr Perry also said in a statement the optimism for an above average crop is tempered by rising cost concerns and the supply of chemicals, diesel, fertiliser and other inputs.
