University Hub to Open in Port Lincoln

A new regional university centre will be established in Port Lincoln, offering local students facilities and support to undertake tertiary education.

The centre, expected to open by early 2023, will be operated by Uni Hub Spencer Gulf and is one of eight new centres that will be established around Australia under the $102 million dollar Federal Government Regional University Centres program.

In early April, the City of Port Lincoln supported the organisations grant application for a centre in the city by providing access to facilities, subsidised rent and some capital investment if they were successful.

Mayor Brad Flaherty said on the application the council's unanimous support for the project reflects the need for and importance of tertiary education in the community.

Member for Grey, Rowan Ramsey, says the centre will make a difference.

"There's a whole lot of people that don't find it all that easy to leave home, they might have a job and be thinking 'well actually, I can work my way into a professional position while I'm working in my job and supporting myself, but I certainly can't afford to up stumps and go to Adelaide and throw my job in,' so that's what UniHub's about," he said.
