With warmer weather forecasted for the Eyre Peninsula over the coming weeks, the CFS is reminding growers that harvester fires can be minimised with simple maintenance.

Harvester fires can cause a large amount of damage to crops and properties, as well as the machinery.

The CFS says growers must be familiar with the SA Grain Harvesting Code of Practice to maintain fire safety, which ensures focus on service, maintenance and machine hygiene.

The service also says it’s important there’s a well maintained and fully operational farm fire-fighting unit with a minimum of 400 litres of water, located in the paddock area where harvesting or grain handling operations are occurring.
