A man has been charged following a house fire at Whyalla Stuart yesterday afternoon.
Just before 3pm on Monday 5 April, police were called to a domestic disturbance at a home on Taylor Street.
A short time later, police received calls of a fire at the same home with one occupant refusing to come out of the property.
When patrols arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames and confronted a man at the front of the property who was then detained and taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
Luckily he was uninjured and no one else at the home was injured.
The home was extensively damaged by the fire and caused minor smoke damage to the adjoining home.
It’s believed the fire was deliberately lit and a 29-year-old Whyalla man has been charged with arson and acts to endanger life and has been refused bail. The man remains under police guard in hospital.
