Local residents and GPs are being urged to start a conversation about weight management as new research suggests a growing reluctance to discuss the topic.

It found 1 in 5 Australians (20%) living overweight or with obesity feel too uncomfortable to raise the issue, with some GPs also unlikely to raise the topic with their patients.

The findings released for today’s World Obesity Day come as experts predict as many as three-quarters of Australian adults will be overweight by 2025.

Lead Author of the ACTION-Au Study, Doctor Georgia Rigus says it’s important for patients and GPs to start a conversation without delay.
