Man allegedly involved in theft syndicate

A NSW man will face court over his alleged role in a crime syndicate involved in the organised theft of cash and jewellery in Sydney.

Police say they arrested the 37-year-old in Manly on Friday as part of an investigation into more than 18 incidents mainly targeting jewellery dealers and others making withdrawals at financial institutions.

A pattern of conduct was for thieves to distract their victims while other syndicate members stole from them, police allege.

The 37-year-old has been charged with participating in a criminal group, knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited drug.

He's been granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court in February.

Police say they've so far charged six men and laid more than 100 charges in relation to an alleged combined theft of more than $700,000.
