There’s been another blow for workers at the Whyalla Steelworks, as the facility’s reopening may be further delayed.
The blast furnace – which has been out of order for more than seven weeks – has been damaged during repairs.
This has weakened hopes the facility may reopen by mid to late May.

The Steelworks initially closed for a two-day routine stoppage, which was drawn out to over 50 days when the blast furnace cooled down too much, causing molten metal to harden inside.
Workers have been on reduced hours as the blast furnace has been out of order.
GFG Alliance says it’s working with customers to ensure orders are filled.
