More moves are being made to convince young Eyre Peninsula residents to steer clear of vaping.
It’s part of a $16 million state-wide crackdown on vapes and illegal tobacco – which is coming under the microscope with more inspectors on the ground across the state.
Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier says vapes are highly addictive and can result in nicotine poisoning.
“We have had an increase in the number of calls to our Poisons Information Centre, particularly young children coming across vaping devices,” Ms Spurrier says.
A new ad campaign will be rolled out to reinforce the message.
“Young people explaining what it has been like for them… the direct health impact of using vapes, and often associated with this chemical soup that people are inhaling.”
