South Australia Police have launched a state-wide operation this long weekend to ensure drivers reach their destinations safely.
The South Australian road toll is 59 for the year – 35 of those fatalities occurred on regional roads and 37% of those died within 20km of their homes.
The Officer in Charge for Traffic Services Superintendent Darren Fielke says Operation Safe Long Weekend will target the five key causes of fatalities – drink and drug driving, dangerous driving, speeding, distraction, and not wearing a seatbelt.
