SA Water will hold community marine science forums next month in Port Lincoln, sharing scientific information on the proposed desal plant at Billy Lights Point with local residents.
The marine science forums will be held on the 2nd of May at 10am, 3pm and 7pm at SA Water’s information centre in Liverpool Street, with the SARDI’s Executive Director of Industry and Regional Development, Peter Appleford and the chair of the Marine Science Review Panel, Dr. Don Plowman presenting.
SA Water’s General Manager of Sustainable Infrastructure, Amanda Lewry, said in a statement scientific modelling was undertaken over several years before Billy Lights Point was selected as the preferred plant location, and next month’s forums are an opportunity to hear from the experts and ask how the science helped them make an informed decision.
Member for Flinders, Sam Telfer, says he’s encouraged that SARDI are coming with SA Water to present to the community.
“I encourage people to actually be engaged with this process and make sure their opinion is well-founded on facts, and make sure that we as a community have the opportunity to challenge some of this science and modelling that is being used as the basis for SA Water’s decisions” he said.
Another community forum to discuss the science behind the plant will be hosted by the Hands Off Boston Bay coalition at the Nautilus Arts Centre at 7pm on May 3rd.
