Police have located an ‘item of interest’ in their search for evidence in the robbery and death of a man on the Eyre Highway.

On 20 January, a 67-year-old man was found unresponsive with a serious head injury on the Eyre Highway at Scotdesco – passing away in hospital on 20 March.

Investigations revealed he was assaulted and robbed before suspects stole his white 1992 Mitsubishi Pajero with trailer.

Two suspects, a 39-year-old Thevenard man and a 28-year-old Yalata woman, were arrested that day and charged with aggravated robbery.

Police searched the Highway from 9-10 April, going through 22 kilometres of road-side scrub looking for weapons or other evidence linked to the attack.

The item found will be sent to Forensic Science SA for analysis.

Police are again asking anyone with Dash Cam footage, or who provided a ride to two hitchhikers on 20 January, to call Crime Stoppers.

The two suspects will appear in Port Augusta Magistrates Court on 1 May.
