Two Eyre Peninsula councils have received positive assessments of their financial positions, according to new advice from the Essential Services Commission.

A recent review examined the historic, current and projected finances of the Franklin Harbour and Streaky Bay councils, finding both to be in a stable position.

Franklin Harbour Council was given a “sustainable” rating, while Streaky Bay Council was assessed as “mostly sustainable”.

Streaky Bay chief executive Damien Carter says the result reflects several years of focused work to strengthen the council’s long‑term financial management.

In a statement, the council said it has spent the past four years improving financial planning and asset management, describing the assessment as a strong endorsement of those efforts.

The findings come as part of a broader review by the Essential Services Commission, which also assessed other regional councils.

In contrast, the same report found Ceduna Council’s cash flow position to be “unsustainable”.
