The Wayback Football Club are celebrating their 120th birthday with a replica guernsey auction on Saturday night, 12 August.
President of the Wayback Football Club Tracy Baldwin – who has been involved in the club for over 20 years – says this is a remarkable milestone, and league players will don the guernsey’s for their game against Tasmans before the auction.
“Traditionally the first guernsey that was ever worn had a red stripe down the middle and it had laces, she said.
“Obviously, we can’t wear laces these days because of safety protocols, so our guernsey does replicate the look of a lace down the middle.”
The club started in 1903 when a group of men in the district met in a paddock and kicked a football around in what became the unofficial first Wayback training session.
