Port Lincoln’s newly revitalised foreshore has earned state-wide acclaim, picking up three prestigious accolades at the 2025 SA Landscape Architecture Awards in Adelaide last Friday.
The project, designed by WAX Design in partnership with the City of Port Lincoln and the Barngarla People, was recognised with the Landscape Architecture Award for Civic Landscape, the Regional Achievement Award, and a commendation in the Healthy Parks Healthy People SA category.
Judges praised the redevelopment for its strong sense of place, cultural sensitivity and community impact. The foreshore was described as a space that “blends cultural identity with a thriving community and environmental sensitivity” — creating a destination that draws both locals and visitors to the town centre.
WAX Design’s approach was commended for transforming an underused stretch of waterfront into a vibrant, inclusive hub. Key features of the upgrade include new plazas, playspaces, cultural artworks and improved pedestrian access — all designed through collaboration with local Aboriginal leaders.
The success at the state level means the project will now advance to the National Landscape Architecture Awards, to be held in Hobart this October.
