A police officer was left seriously injured after being assaulted by a teenager in Whyalla Stuart last week.
On Thursday, 29 June, police were conducting inquiries into the whereabouts of a teenager reported missing by his family earlier that evening.
When an officer located and approached the 15-year-old boy in a park on Wittwer Street around 10:20pm, the teenager allegedly hit the officer twice in the head with the officer’s torch before fleeing the scene.
The 34-year-old policeman was rushed to hospital after patrols arrived to assist him, and the teenager was located and arrested at his home around 11:45pm.
The boy was charged with aggravated assault causing harm and causing harm to a prescribed emergency worker.
He appeared in Whyalla Magistrates Court on Friday.
