Visitors arriving in Port Lincoln are now greeted by new town entry signs, featuring a design by Barngarla artist Jenna Richards.

Installed on the Flinders Highway and Western Approach Road, the signs reflect key goals in the Port Lincoln Council’s City Image (Urban Design) Action Plan and Reconciliation Action Plan.

The artwork tells the story of Port Lincoln’s traditional name, Galinyala, meaning ‘Place of Sweet Water’.

The design elements symbolise the freshwater spring shared with early settlers, fish traps used by the Barngarla people and the community working together in harmony.

In a statement, the Council said it was proud to collaborate with Ms Richards on the important project, and hope the signs are enjoyed by residents and visitors to the city.
