In what could be a boost for the Eyre Peninsula’s upcoming seaweed industry, a Flinders University project will aim to both explore and develop industrial-scale seaweed production.

The project will look at the restoration of seaweed forests for aquaculture, carbon storage and maintaining a healthy marine environment.

Golden kelp and other seaweeds will be sampled along the south-eastern coastline, with the project combining genomics, artificial intelligence and experimental ecology to develop tech that can maximise the growth of key seaweed species for aquaculture.
