A Watch and Act warning for residents in Lock has been downgraded, after a grass fire broke out near the township this week.

CFS volunteers on six trucks, supported by 10 Farm Fire Units and five aircraft, worked yesterday to prevent the fire from spreading.

The fire burnt approximately 36 hectares of farming land but was halted before it could spread to the nearby Barwell Conservation Park.

It is believed the cause of the fire was from farming machinery nearby.

Cameron Dangerfield from the CFS said the incident should serve as a reminder to prepare for the season ahead.

“With the week’s weather ahead, there’s no better time to get your CFS bushfire plan ready,” he said.

The fire was successfully extinguished by about 8pm, with crews remaining on scene overnight to monitor conditions.
