Wudinna is preparing to welcome a massive convoy of donated hay this weekend, as part of a drought relief effort supporting struggling local farmers.

More than eighty truckloads of hay are being delivered from Western Australia through the Lions Club’s Need for Feed Disaster Relief program, with the convoy due to arrive on Saturday, 26 July.

The Wudinna District Council is helping coordinate a rest stop for the drivers, before they continue on to Cleve.

Mayor Eleanor Scholz said the hay run would bring a real boost to local farmers.

“This hay run isn’t just about bringing in feed, it’s about letting our farmers know they’re not alone,” she said. “It’s been a tough season…and this kind of support lifts local spirits.”

The initiative is backed by the State Government’s $6 million Donated Fodder Transport Subsidy Scheme, helping cover freight costs.

Wudinna Community Club will host a thank-you dinner for drivers on Saturday, followed by a council-sponsored breakfast from Sunday.

Need for Feed is run entirely by volunteers and has supported Aussie farmers since 2006.
