SA Greens are pushing for the State Government to get more nurses and midwives to regional areas by using initiatives outlined by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation.

These recommendations include a boost to relocation allowances, removal cost assistance, and greater support with study debt repayments.

Greens SA Health Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC says it is vital the government heeds this call to ensure there are enough nurses and midwives to keep regional health services functioning.

“The State Government must listen to ANMF and urgently provide incentives that will ensure that there are enough nurses and midwives to keep regional health services fully functioning, Mr Simms says.

“Otherwise, there is a serious risk that people living in the regions will be left unable to access life saving healthcare.”

The workforce shortage has impacted the birthing unit in Whyalla.
