Fish Yields Could Spiral If Temperatures Rise

Plans are being made to handle an expected drop in fisheries yields across the country, amid climate change concerns.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s latest report predicts a fall of between 3 and 10 per cent if average global temperatures increase by 0.9 to 2.0 degrees.

The report also warns if the planet continues to warm up, with temperatures rising by between 2.4C and 5.2C, yields could fall by up to thirty per cent.

Australian Institute of Marine Science says while faster fish growth can be a result of warmer waters, the populations tend to result in smaller fish.
