Crows land in Lincoln and help budding players soar

The Adelaide Crows landed in Port Lincoln yesterday, 15 February, as part of the AFL’s Community Camps program.

The men’s and women’s teams have been busy hosting clinics and holding open training sessions at local schools and Centenary Oval.

Adelaide Crows half-forward Lachie Murphy gave us the details at the start of the week.

“We’ve got some school visits, some footy clinics – I believe that’s Thursday and Friday – and then in the afternoon [Friday] we’ve obviously got our internal scratch match which is open to the public,” Murphy said.

AFLW midfielder Teah Charlton gave us the details on what the women’s team are doing.

“We’re going to be visiting a few schools and then we’re going to do some clinics for the girls, and we’re also going to open up the men’s training, and then there’ll be a men’s internal trial that people can come and watch,” Charlton said.

She said she’s most excited about running the clinics for the young girls.

“The football world around there is really good and it’s just building for the girls, so it would be awesome just to get as many girls out there and interact and have a good time with everyone.

“Every time we get an opportunity like this, it’s just awesome to take because we can just branch out the love of football and get more girls playing.”

Kids aged 5-15 went out to have a kick at Centenary Oval yesterday afternoon, and defender Luke Nankervis said it’s important to get kids in the regions involved.

“Obviously it’s a fair trek to get to Adelaide Oval and games… so to give back to the fans that support us so much, it means a lot to us,” Nankervis said.

Still to come is a Female Football Clinic at 3:30pm this afternoon, and the men’s internal trial match at 4:30pm.
