Port Lincoln Council have reiterated their stance on the Eyre Peninsula Desalination Plant proposed for Billy Lights Point.
Following presentations from SA Water, the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board, the Department for Environment and Water, Hands off Boston Bay, and Industry representatives – the Council aren’t convinced the Plant is going in the right place.
This comes not long after Member for Flinders Sam Telfer wrote to SA Premier Peter Malinauskas about local concerns.
“Last year I wrote to the Premier to highlight to him the concerns that our local community, local business, local industry, local Indigenous community had with any plans to locate a desal plant at Billy Lights Point here in the bay area at Port Lincoln,” he says.
Mr Telfer says it’s never too late to make the right decision.
“This is why in challenging the Premier to look at this as a whole – to see that if there’s plans for a Northern Water Scheme, for instance, just up the road within a certain period of time – why not look at folding that in with a Southern Desal Plant?
“Let’s look at technologies and the potential to be able to do things differently, let’s look at location, let’s make sure that the arrangements are right for long-term water security on the Eyre Peninsula and doesn’t impact existing business and industry.”
