South Australia’s childcare deserts have been revealed, with parents struggling to get a spot for their kids.
The Eyre Peninsula and South West is the state’s second worst served area for childcare, with 3,213 children under four, but only 1,829 spaces.
The nearby Mid North is the worst served region, with 0.54 places available per child.
It’s a similar situation on the Yorke Peninsula, which was ranked as the third-worst served area.
In the region, there are only 729 spaces for the 1,214 kids under four.
The 23 local Councils in the Mid North, Yorke and Eyre Peninsula regions have formed the Regional Childcare Desert Advocacy Project, in response to the ongoing crisis in the federal electorate of Grey, which has the worst childcare desert in the country.
