CFS Firefighter dies fighting Eyre Peninsula blaze

A South Australian firefighter has died while responding to a remote fire on the Eyre Peninsula.

Peter Curtis, a member of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) brigade strike team, passed away on Sunday afternoon while assisting with a scrub fire in Pinkawillinie Conservation Park, west of Kimba.

The team was deployed as part of a coordinated effort to protect the park and nearby communities under challenging conditions.

Mr Curtis began his firefighting career with ForestrySA in 1995 and joined NPWS in 2017, serving in senior leadership roles including Strike Team Leader and Sector Commander.

The circumstances of Mr Curtis’s death are under investigation.

Authorities have asked that his family and colleagues be given privacy during this difficult time.
