Football clubs around the country will see an $8 million boost over the next four years thanks to funding from the AFL and Telstra.

The Telstra Footy Country Grants will support eligible regional and metro clubs, who can apply for up to $20,000 in funding to support, strengthen and sustain local footy.

Telstra Executive Brent Smart says clubs should apply as soon as possible for the best chance of securing funding.

“More than 700 clubs around the country have submitted an expression of interest, so we recommend you get in quick so you don’t miss out,” Mr Smart says.

Carlton Captain Patrick Cripps says he understands the importance of additional funding for regional clubs.

“A lot of country clubs don’t get access or have a lot of funds to resource the footy club and, sort of, help the kids chase their dreams, Mr Cripps says.

“It’d help young boys and girls play country footy [which] is really special.”
