Not a typo, you read that right. There are Ostriches in the South Australian outback.
While the birds are typically native to Africa a small population was introduced into SA in the 1890's and again later in the 1970's.
Farmers attempted to farm them for meat and they gorgeous feathers but ultimately failed and set them all free.
Since they were released into the wild the birds have been spotted all over the place, some turning up in Maree in SA's Far North and some even interstate.
