It's genuinely the hottest ticket in the solar system right now, and you could have one.
NASA is inviting the public to head to the sun, because they want to touch it.
No line or queue, NASA is taking names, and chucking them all on a Microchip, and sending it, along for a ride on the Parker Solar Probe, which is set to launch in a few months - Associate Admistrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA HQ in Washington has said, "this probe will journey to a region humanity has never explored before. This Mission will answer questions scientists have sought to uncover for more than six decades."
The probe itself is around the size of a small car, is going to be shot into the suns atmosphere, about 6.4 million KM from the stars surface to trace how energy and heat move around the sun. Given the huge amounts of heat (expected to be around the 1300 celsius mark) it'll be wrapped up in a 11cm thick carbon composite shield - wont slow it down much, during the probe's closest approach, it's expected to be cruising along at 692000kph.
So if you're keen to score the hottest ticket in the solarsystem, on board something travelling more than twice the width of australia less than every second - you can add your name here
Better to be quick about it though - Submissions close April 27th.
