Drivers stuck in traffic at one of Port Lincoln’s busiest intersections could soon see relief following complaints over short green light signals.
Everyone is familiar with the frustration: the light turns green at the Porter and Liverpool Streets intersection, but traffic grinds to a halt as a heavy road train slowly accelerates through.
By the time the truck reaches the other side, the light has already flickered back to yellow – leaving a queue of drivers stranded.
This week, Member for Flinders Sam Telfer said the delays stem from a traffic light sequencing error.
“We’ve realised … the green light was only staying on for 15 seconds,” Mr Telfer said.
“With harvest and more truck movements starting across the region over the next few months, we need sequencing that actually works for the intersection.”
Mr Telfer has written to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport asking officials to review and adjust the signal timings.
Upgraded earlier this year, the key freight and commuter corridor sees more than 10,000 vehicles pass through daily, including over 1,400 heavy trucks.
The department indicated it will look to implement a fix for the traffic light timing in the coming months.
